Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)
Use: Antioxidant action, increase of absorption of metals (iron), gum aids, teeth, muscles and internal organs, metabolism, composition of collagen and hormones.
Natural sources: pineapple, cabbage, citrus fruits, berries, broccolis, tomatoes, melon, peppers, fresh fruits and vegetables, strawberries.
Insufficiency: Muscular weakness, anemia, loss of appetite, dermal bleeding, edema in contacts, deceleration of cicatrisation of wounds, gum bleeding, low resistance in infections.
Daily need: 60-120 mg
Increased needs: Exercising, recovery, diabetes, older people, sedentary life, smoking, pollution, lack of iron, stress.
Suspension of absorption: Stress, high fevers, smoking, antibiotics, aspirin, cortisone.
